Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon Schedule

Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) -- The 28th Running of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon events will take place Jan 28th thru Feb 3th, 2011.

Beargrease will provide free busing from UMD’s Maroon lot W from 10am until 4pm on race day, Jan 30th.

Beargrease checkpoints are uniquely accessible to the public.

Beargrease fans can drive to the checkpoints to experience the race excitement around the clock at the Two Harbors, Beaver Bay, Finland, Sawbill, Trail Center, Gunflint Trail and Devil Track Lodge checkpoints throughout the race. Billy’s in Duluth hosts the finish and Red Lantern Party.

The John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon is the longest running race in the lower 48 states. The 390 mile course of rugged, awesome scenery winds its way up the North Shore of Lake Superior and into the primal wilderness along the Canadian border. This race commemorates the courage and endurance of John Beargrease, the intrepid Chippewa dog-driver who carried the U.S. mail to outposts along the North Shore of Lake Superior in the late 1800’s.
