Map: Kayaker Death
Grand Portage, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - The Canadian Coast Guard pulled the body of a kayaker from the waters of Lake Superior on Sunday.
A personal locator beacon went off around 9:20 in the morning about one mile from Pigeon Bay Point. That's just south of the Canadian border and north of Grand Portage.
The US Coast Guard says a Canadian coastguard aircraft located the kayaker capsized in the water at around 11:30 following a search.
Winds gusting up to 30 mph and the 42 degree water temperature may have contributed to the distress call. The kayaker was wearing a life jacket.
His identity has not been released.
