DULUTH, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - A Carlton man will embark on a trip Thursday afternoon around Lake Superior by bike in part to help fill the stomachs of those in need.

Timothy Soden-Groves will attempt the 1,050 miles in 10.5 days starting Thursday.

He hopes to not only cross off an item off his bucket list, but also help Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank in the process.

His ride is coined "Velo the Lake 2012 - Ride Against Hunger" and he hopes to help raise awareness.

He said he realized during training that he wanted to bike for a cause.

"It became evident that that was a lot of me time, a lot of Timothy time and it was important to me to widen out the scope a little bit so that it was of some benefit to somebody else besides just me," said Soden-Groves.

September is Hunger Action Month.

A donation of $10 to the food bank will provide 50 meals to the hungry.
