Duluth awarded $45.5K in Parks Grants

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The City of Duluth has been awarded $45,650 in grants to improve and enhance recreation services in Duluth parks, trails, and recreational facilities.

Organizations receiving funding include:

Cyclists of Gitchee Gumee Shores: $5,000 for new and existing trail signage on multi-use trails.

Cyclists of Gitchee Gumee Shores: $2,500 for the Duluth Traverse trail construction from the Brewer Park trail system down the banks of Keene Creek to Cody Street in West Duluth.

Duluth Community Garden Program: $3,350 for the Let's Grow Edible Duluth program to make infrastructure improvements at existing community gardens on City owned property.

Duluth Sister Cities International: $5,000 for Summer Celebration-Lake Place Summer Sounds a free summer concert series at Lake Place Park Wednesdays from July 16-August 20.

Goodwill Industries: $5,000 for a MOFAS Summer youth employment program.

Lake Superior Zoological Society: $5,000 for a volunteer docent program.

Neighbors of Lower Chester Park: $1,800 Lower Chester Park basketball hoops and trash/recycling Bins.

One Roof Community Housing: $5,000 for Central Hillside Park revitalization.

The Salvation Army: $4,000 for the RBA Dunkin in Duluth 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament.

Wheels on Trails Organization: $4,000 to help people experience Duluth parks and trails for non-traditional users.

Woodland Hills: $5,000 for a summer explorers club connecting kids with healthy lifestyle activities to teach life skills and build confidence.
