Lake Superior is a gigantic body of water by any standards but two Northlanders have a new appreciation on how large the lake really is.

Mike Link and Kate Crowley of Willow River finished their 4 and half month hike around the greatest of the great lakes.

The more than 15-hundred mile journey culminated where it started those months ago in Canal Park where the hikers were met with cheering crowds their friends and family.

They hikers said their journey was difficult but they always remained positive.

Mike and Kate said "Day eight might have been the day when we walked in rain, which changed to sleet, which changed to snow, so that was a bummer but even then we knew we were getting to our car and we weren't going to die out in it, but there never was really a day where we were depressed and feeling down about it at all."

This isn't the end of the journey for Mike and Kate.

In 2011 they're thinking about making another mammoth hike in New Zealand.
