Leap Day Snowstorm

It's still looking like a really good chance of wet and heavy snow tonight into Wednesday. Heavy snow should begin for the Twin Ports around 10-Midnight tonight. Winds will be out of the ENE at 10-25mph with gusts near 40mph by the lake. Snow will be heavy at times and we are expecting around 6" throughout the night. Lows will be at 24. I am concerned about an icy mix for areas in northern Wisconsin as the warm moist air from the south pushes northward. This could reduce the amount of snow seen in the areas south of Hayward.


As we head into Wednesday there's an additional 6" possible from 6am to noon. Winds will continue out of the ENE at 15-25mph with gusts near 40 by the lake. Heavy snow will turn to light snow into the afternoon hours as lake enhancement occurs. Conditions are right for full on lake effect snow, but some light snow is possible throughout the evening and into Thursday morning. Highs Wednesday will be near 33.

Twin Ports, Hayward, Cloquet, Moose Lake, Sandstone, Spooner, Two Harbors, Silver Bay, Ashland: 7-14"


Range, Ironwood: 3-6"


Ely, International Falls, Grand Marais: 1-3"
