Man Drowns On Lake Winnibigoshish

Pigeon River, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- A man drowns on Lake Winnibigoshish after the canoe he was in with another man capsized.

The Itasca County Sheriff's Office received a call of a possible drowning just after 1 p.m. Saturday on Lake Winnibigoshish

Deputies learned that a canoe with two adult males capsized about 100 yards from shore.

One man swam to shore and the other was unaccounted for. No life jackets were worn.

Authorities recovered the body of the missing man from the lake shortly after 3 p.m. The victim was identified as Todd Raymond Roy, 45, from Cass Lake.

The victim was transported to Grand Itasca Medical Center by Deer River Ambulance and pronounced dead by the Itasca County Coroner.

The Itasca County Sheriff’s Office, Itasca County Search and Rescue, Leech Lake Conservation Officers, and Minnesota State Conservation Officers responded to the scene.
