Effie, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Four men have pleaded guilty following an investigation by the Minnesota DNR into sunfish over-limits on Deer Lake in Effie, MN.

Each man had to pay $740 in fines, totaling nearly $3,000.

State conservation officers say they checked on George Stavish of Randall, Minn.; Roland Mammenga of Randall, Minn.; Curt Atkisson of Staples, MN; and Rae Mammenga of Conesville, Iowa during a patrol on Deer Lake.

During a search of the freezers, officers say they found bags of mostly frozen sunfish from Deer, Pickerel, Battle, Larson, and Poplar lakes. The sunfish were seized and the men were charged with 84 sunfish over the legal limit. Among the sunfish were 18 black crappie, 11 northern pike and nine bass.

The Minnesota DNR asks anyone witnessing a fish or wildlife violation to contact the Turn in Poachers hotline at 800-652-9093.
