St. Paul, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - It appears the red hot excitement over the possibility of moving up Minnesota's fishing opener by one week has cooled down a bit.

The proposal was the focus of an informational meeting Monay by the Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee.

DNR officials voiced concerns that the early opener could have adverse effects on spawning and harvesting of some Minnesota lakes.

Resort owners and members of the state hospitality industry said their members are split about the idea, but that an early start will cause logistical problems for resort owners and confusion among many anglers.

The proposal is part of a larger game and fish bill that is expected to arrive in the house next week for debate.
