Possible Changes to Wisconsin Fishing Regulations

February 21, 2013 Updated Feb 21, 2013 at 6:12 PM CDT

Hayward, WI (NNCNOW.com)-- The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is testing the waters for potential changes to fishing regulations.

The department, through a series of meetings is providing the public with information for possible big changes to state fishing rules.

For instance, the DNR is hoping to come up with a pan fish management plan, and is looking to eliminate the early catch and release season for largemouth bass.

Also, trolling could become acceptable statewide.

Right now, some counties don't allow fishing while slowly moving on the water.

"From a biological standpoint, we don't see trolling as a huge concern but it's a social issue and it's about people deciding what their fishing experience should be," said Max Wolter, Fishery Biologist for the Wisconsin DNR.
