Preparing to go 'Over the Edge'

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com)-- In a few days dozens of daredevils will literarily drop in on Duluth's Sidewalk Days.

It's called Over the Edge and Duluth's Greater Downtown Council is hosting the rappelling event on Wednesday and Thursday, to raise money for an important part of our local economy.

"It's a benefit for our whole community when we have a strong, healthy downtown," said Kristi Stokes with the Greater Downtown Council.

Participants needed to raise a minimum of $1,000 in on-line pledges to repel nine stories down the Sellwood building in downtown Duluth.

"I have never done anything like this, ever in my life," said Cassie Fulda, who's going Over the Edge on Thursday.

Cassie Fulda and Casey Goldberg work at LHB in downtown Duluth. Together they raised over $1,300 to participate in the repel.

After it's over, they'll know they helped support the place they work everyday. Kristi Stokes with the Greater Downtown Council says the money will go a long way to help existing, and possible new shops in downtown Duluth.

"This could be a grant program for signage or training, this could be a loan program," said Stokes. "There are a number of different things we are looking at."

The event starts at 8:00 a.m., on Thursday and goes until 4:00 p.m. The Sellwood building is located at 202 West Superior Street in downtown Duluth.
