Brainerd, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- A single juvenile zebra mussel was found on dock equipment that was being removed from Pelican Lake in Crow Wing County.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reported that a dock services provider found the mussel attached to a dock post during the removal of a dock.
The small size of the zebra mussel indicates it is not at a reproductive stage.
DNR biologists are investigating how the mussel got into the lake. They have surveyed other docks and marker buoys on the lake and have not found any other mussels. Officials continue to monitor the lake.
Any zebra mussel sightings should be reported to to DNR invasive species specialists Dan Swanson at 218-833-8645 or Rich Rezanka at 218-999-7805.
