Sites And Sounds Of RNC

By KBJR News 1

The fourth and final day of the Republican National Convention will soon be over.

LeAnn Wallace has been in Saint Paul all day and has more.

The sites.... and sounds.... of the Republican National Convention.
From rallies to protesters.... Supporters to innocent by-standers...
The Twin Cities is covered in red white and blue.

Who better to get an up-close look at the convention than David Pederson - a volunteer driver who weaves through the crowded streets as he shuttles delegates, politicians, and some other pretty important people to where they need to go...

"Monday I drove John McCain's younger son, and I also have driven many other representatives and delegates that are in attendance at the convention all over the Twin Cities."

But sometimes getting people to their destination has been a difficult task because of the plethora of protesters.

"I've had a couple of times when I've had people that needed to be at the convention and the protesters just wouldn't allow it, they were blocking the streets and police were trying to keep them at bay."

Security is tight at the site of the convention... thousands of police officers from all over the nation can be seen, including over 40-officers from the Duluth Police Department who have been taking turns working at the convention throughout the course of the week.

"45,000 delegates, alternate delegates and volunteers have made their way to the convention this week, including some from Duluth."

"McCain stands for a lot of great things that I am pleased to hopefully see the country move forward with, less dependency on foreign oil, the smaller government, lowered taxes, and I'm really excited and motivated to see what the results are come November."

Setting political differences and riots a side... the mood in Saint Paul this weeks is a positive one.

"It's a great atmosphere, we're getting a lot of momentum here, it's lots of fun."

"It's just been fun, you know, if I had to describe the whole experience in one word, it's fun."

The clean-up process begins Friday, as thousands of volunteers will be on hand to put the Twin Cities back to their pre-convention condition.
