(NBC News) According to a report from NBC News, an earthquake shook a wide area of Southern California on Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
According to the NBC News report:
It struck at 9:55 a.m. and was initially estimated at a magnitude 5.1, with several smaller seismic events also reported. However, the largest quake was quickly downgraded to magnitude 4.7
The quake was centered 16 miles south of Palm Desert, California, in the high desert area northeast of San Diego.
There were no initial reports of damage or injuries.
