Congressman Oberstar Highlights Congress' 2007 Accomplishments

Congressman Jim Oberstar took the opportunity on Wednesday to highlight the accomplishments of Congress in 2007.
The 8th District DFL'er says the minimum wage was successfully increased for the first time in 15 years.
Legislation was also passed to make college more affordable for young people.
Many other changes are being made to protect our waterways.
"We had the first override of a presidential veto by the Bush Administration and one of only 107 in the history of U.S. Congress." Oberstar said to a crowd at the Duluth airport, "It was $21 billion dollar water development resources act that it vitally important for us in the Northland and throughout the Great Lakes region."
Some of this money will fund facilities researching invasive species in the Great Lakes.
This year, Congressman Oberstar says help work to upgrade the aviation industry, provide more meth treatment centers, and build more libraries.
