Construction Continues At Hibbing Apartment Complex

By KBJR Manager

Demolition continues at Hibbing's Arrowhead apartment complex.

Residents were forced to move out last Thursday after the building was deemed unfit to live in.

Chris Buckley has the latest from our Iron Range Bureau.

Residents were given short notice last Thursday when they were told they had just a few hours to vacate the Arrowhead apartments.

The building's roof had a leak and that caused electrical problems and the order for residents to move out.

The buildings owners say all 13 residents have found other places to go
For Donald Lees, that was the Hibbing Park Hotel.

"Since we were displaces we stayed at the Park hotel, which was gracious enough to give us the first night for free, now we're paying but looking for a place to rent. It's a slow process."

Owner Donavan Thronson says his heart goes out to his tenants and he's been working to make sure they're all taken care of.

On Wednesday he helped move the belongings of one resident who doesn't have a vehicle.

And the Hibbing police department helped two residents move into nearby apartments with assistance from the local HRA.

Right now crews are on scene mitigating the water damage.

They're trying to determine the extent of the damage and how soon the building can be deemed livable again.

It could take several months.

Building officials in Hibbing say they'll be talking about permits for renovation work over the next few weeks.

Range Construction and Services also volunteered their time to help with moving duties.
