Marking The 1st Anniversary Of The Ham Lake Fire

By KBJR News 1

It's been one year since the Ham Lake fire burned more than 30-thousand acres of forest land at the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and along the Gunflint Trail.

The fire was one of the biggest this area has seen in many years.
This weekend several events will be held to commemorate the first anniversary of the fire.

"Gunflint Green Up" gets underway today with the planting of 75- thousand trees along the Gunflint Trail.

The planting will give a head start toward a healthy recovery of the area affected by fire.

On Sunday runners can participate in the Ham Run Half Marathon and 5K race along the Gunflint Trail.

We'll have a crew on the Gunflint today and will bring you details of the weekend events.
