Dylan Way Opens In Duluth

By KBJR News 1

For years, Bob Dylan fans have been hitting Hibbing and Duluth to see the singer's hometowns.

Now, they have a pair of new things to see and Dave Anderson tells us where.

"Like a rolling stone."

A lot of people in Hibbing and Duluth are proud of their towns' connection to folk and rock legend Bob Dylan.
Both towns have tributes to the hometown hero and Duluth's latest is now complete.

With the tug of a string, Bob Dylan Pathway is open for fans to tour the town in which the musician was born.
Tourism experts are already getting calls.

"My friend Gene Shaw of Visit Duluth says he gets constant calls wanting to know where Dylan's house is and people have mentioned they've seen the pathway."

The pathway goes from the Depot to the National Guard Armory where a teenage Bob Zimmerman watched Buddy Holly perform in 1959.

Celebrities coming to town in 2008 have noticed Dylan Way and Gene Shaw of Visit Duluth capitalized on the moment.

"When George Clooney and Renee Zellwiger were here they noticed the sign so he sent them a couple t-shirts!"

Also new on the Bob Dylan Pathway is this mini-museum in Fitger's.

"We have a map that points out the pathway and we have a photo of his house and concert photos of when Dylan came to Duluth in 1998."

Tourism officials, plus some Duluth city councilors and St. Louis County commissioners, feel Dylan Way will be a path for fresh dollars from visitors.

"There are lots of Dylan fans everywhere and now they have another destination in Minnesota to visit."
