By KBJR News 1

Cleveland-Cliffs will spend more than 100 million dollars on improvements to its United Taconite facility in Forbes under an initiative called the "Green Production Project."

United Taconite plans to significantly reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, mercury and other air pollutants while increasing production of taconite pellets.

An estimated 35 million dollars will be used for retro-fitting the plant to burn lower emitting fuels and adding new emission control equipment.

Production will increase from 5.3 million tons to six million tons per year creating 24 new jobs.

When improvements are in place, UTAC expects to have the lowest combined emissions per ton of taconite produced...in Minnesota.
