By KBJR News 1

Several Iron Range units of the United Steelworkers of America have voted in favor of authorizing strikes if they can't reach an agreement on a new contract.

The old contract expires Sunday and parties have been negotiating in Pittsburgh.

Voting to authorize a strike is basically a formality.

If negotiations don't go as planned the rank and file will take another vote on whether to actually go out on strike.
