Bovey Farmer's Day Celebration

By KBJR News 1

The Iron Range town of Bovey continued a long-standing tradition this Labor Day weekend.

This is the 97th year they've celebrated "Bovey Farmer's Day"
It started out as a way to cater to the local farmers.

There's still produce displays and a scarecrow competition.

But it's evolved into more of an annual get-together that runs the whole holiday weekend.

"Many people come back, it could be a few years since they've been back, but they always come back to Bovey Farmer's Day, it's seeing people you haven't seen in awhile and having a great time!"

"It's very odd to have a Farmer's day in a little mining town like Bovey, but way back Coleraine was built right next to us, the mining interests went there, so the merchants attempted to cater to the local farmers and an early Bovey Mayor was from Iowa, where they had famers days of appreciation, and started it here.

The tradition is almost as old as the town - Bovey celebrated it's centennial in 2004.
