Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Training medical personnel at Essentia Health just took a big step towards the future.

He's called "Sim Man," and he's a virtual patient who can be programmed to simulate real medical conditions.

The life-like mannequin can blink its eyes, speak, and even bleed.

The technology allows doctors and nurses to recreate medical emergencies, which officials say is very beneficial to the learning process.

"Having Sim Man demonstrate that, the learner can watch it and figure out how they're going to care for that patient without all of the stress of it being a real human being," Essentia's Director of Clinical Education Linda Wagner said.

"Sim Man" has been at Essentia for about a year now, but officials say even that has not been enough time to test out all of the mannequin's bells and whistles.
