WARNING: Cyber Scam Attacking Bank Accounts

February 3, 2012 Updated Feb 3, 2012 at 1:01 PM CDT

Madison, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The FBI is warning the public about a new email phishing scam that is attacking bank accounts.

The cyber scam involves a piece of malware called "Gameover" that steals bank account information.

The scam is an email claiming to be from the National Automated Clearing House Association, the Federal Reserve Bank, or the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.

It claims there is a problem with your bank account or a recent transaction, and asks you to click on a link to correct the information.

The link brings you to a phony website where you unknowingly download the "Gameover" malware, which infects your computer and steals your banking information.

The FBI advises the public not to open emails from any of the agencies and to delete them immediately.
