FAA picks drone tests site, Minnesota not in the mix

Washington, D.C. (NNCNOW.com) - It looks as if Minnesota's hopes to become a test site for drone research have been dashed.

The FAA spent the last ten months looking at 25 proposals from 24 states to make their selection. Minnesota wasn't one of them.

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development pointed to Lake Superior's restricted airspace and the booming aviation industry in the Twin Ports as several attracting factors in the pitch last summer.

Sites selected by the FAA in December include Alaska, Nevada, New York, North Dakota, Texas and Virginia.

The FAA considered a number of factors including geography, climate, airspace and risk in its selection.
