Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) - One person is dead following a shooting at a Superior business Thursday that is now being ruled as a homicide.

Police responded to a call for a person with a gunshot wound shortly after 12 p.m. Thursday in a parking lot at Genesis Attachments, a manufacturing company located on Connors Point.

Superior Police say the wound was initially thought to be self–inflicted.
However, they now say evidence and investigative leads have caused them to call it a homicide.

During the course of the investigation, a suspect was identified and taken into custody. According to the Superior Police Department, the suspect was located at the Allyndale Motel in Duluth and was taken into custody by the Duluth Police and Tactical Response Team just before 6 p.m.

The suspect was lodged at the St. Louis County Jail on a Douglas County warrant for First Degree Intentional Homicide.

The names of both the victim and suspect are currently being withheld.

Authorities say the man with the gunshot wound was taken to Essentia Health-St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth where he died shortly after arrival.

Police had blocked off a section of the business parking lot with police tape Thursday afternoon and were on scene until about 3:30 p.m.

When reached by phone for comment Thursday, the person answering the phone at Genesis Attachments said the business had no comment.

Throughout the afternoon, Superior Police were guarding the entrance to Genesis Attachments, however employees were still allowed to enter and leave.

The incident remains under investigation.
