Bois Forte Reservation (Northland's NewsCenter) - After years of having an outdated facility, the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa now has an upgraded law enforcement center.

The band held a grand opening today for the nearly $900,000 center, which includes new surveillance systems and an updated prisoner holding area.

The Band received a nearly $800,000 grant from the Department of Justice for the upgrade.

Law enforcement officials say the new center greatly enhances their ability to do their job.

"It protects the officer more and the officer is more at ease to do their job when they know there's a camera to protect them liability–wise," said Police Chief Peter Drift.

The department also received five new police vehicles. Bois Forte tribal government contributed around $100,000 to the building.
