Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- It's one of the great ironies of the Vikings - Packers rivalry that Minnesota's greatest head coach, Bud Grant, was born in Wisconsin.
Bud Grant came back to his home town of Superior to receive an honor from the National Football League and All State Insurance.
Wearing his letter sweater from Superior Central High School, Grant was shown a Hometown Hero plaque that will be posted in the high school.
The NFL and insurance company are giving plaques like this to the high schools of football hall of famers around the country.
Grant was pleased with the honor and was quick to point out Superior's other two hall of famers.
"You're going to have a couple more guys here with plaques just like this,” Grant said. “Ernie Nevers and Tuffy Leemans are going to have plaques just like this in this school."
In the early days of the NFL, Nevers played for the Duluth Eskimos and the Chicago Cardinals.
Leemans played for the New York Giants.
Master of ceremonies for the event was our former sports director, Tom Hansen.
