Duluth, MN (Northlands NewsCenter)
-- Starting in June the Fond du Lac Band will no longer receive city payments to operate the downtown parking ramp adjacent to the Fond du Luth Casino.
Duluth plans to consolidate its parking facilities with a new parking manager and a new parking commission.
The City of Duluth is creating a new unified parking program through out the city.
City spokespeople say they're taking over the ramp after receiving complaints about its operation and cleanliness under tribal management.
Duluth Mayor Don Ness feels this is an important action in ongoing efforts to upgrade the parking situation in downtown Duluth.
"We were disappointed with some of the management of the parking previously. We want to get it into a holistic parking system and this was an appropriate step to take."
Fond du Lac Band Chairwoman Karen Diver wasn't disappointed in the decision and thinks the decision is a good choice.
