DULUTH, MN.-----(Northlands Newscenter) Giving kids in crisis a safe place to sleep is the goal of an event being held this weekend.
Lutheran Social Service will host a Branson–Style Country Show starting at 7 p.m on Saturday at the St. Margaret Mary Church Hall.
The funds will go toward the purchase of mattresses for the Bethany Youth Services shelter, which provides a safe place for children up to 17 years of age who are dealing with crisis.
Any child who is homeless, running away or dealing with abuse and neglect can check in to the service center on a voluntary basis.
Staff, case managers, and counselors are available at all times to assist children and their families.
Supervision, safety, clothing, and food are all provided while the children stay at the shelter.
"We assign rooms based on gender first, and then age," said Dawn Shykes of Bethany Youth Services. "We provide everything in the room, dressers, beds, the bedding, its really just like when you come into a home and your setting up your own room, you know from start to finish. We've got pillows, blankets, all that kind of stuff."
Several volunteers were painting the rooms in the service shelter
