DULUTH, MN (Northland's NewsCenter)---Crossing the finish line of the Grandma's marathon is a achievement in many peoples lives.

But for one couple it signified a much larger milestone.

After completing the half marathon, 23–year old Katie Lindquist waited to greet her boyfriend as he crossed the finish line.

After running the full marathon, Jesse Trebesch got down on one knee and asked for her hand in marriage.

Family on both sides knew of the engagement plan prior to the day of the marathon but kept it a secret from Lindquist.

"I thought maybe because it was like a big weekend, and I'd be really cool, but I didn't think he would have it in his pocket and run 26 miles," said Lindquist.

"Before we left she said, 'So do you have the ring in your bag?' and I did have it in my bag," said Trebesch.

The couple has been together four years and plan to get married next summer.
