Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com)-- Authorities are noticing an uptick in the number of bicycle thefts.

The Duluth Police Department posted a message on its Facebook page reminding people about the importance of keeping bicycles secure and locked up.

They also recommend that bike owners keep a copy of their bike's serial number to help authorities identify stolen property.

A rash of bike thefts has affected the Harbor Highlands neighborhood in Duluth recently. Kids who have been victims of the crime spree want to deliver a message to the thieves.

"They are real mean and cheap because they can't get their own bike," said 4th Grader Logan Carr.

If your bike goes missing, make sure to call the proper authorities and report it right away.
