Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - On Thursday, the Duluth City Council preliminarily approved hiring an outside law firm to represent the city in the arbitration proceedings of Richard Jouppi.

The city is looking at hiring an attorney at a cost up to $50,000.

Last month, a jury acquitted Jouppi on charges of assault and disorderly conduct after he got into an altercation with a man in a wheel chair at the Duluth Detox Center.

Jouppi is looking to get his job back at the Duluth Police Department, something Chief Ramsay has been strongly against.

The council will take up the issue at its regular meeting on Monday.
