Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Students at the Duluth Edison Charter Schools officially said goodbye to summer Tuesday and hit the books again.

A record enrollment of 1,300 kids was back in the classrooms of North Star Academy and Raleigh Academy.

Raleigh Academy had no air conditioning, but with the heat wave in the Northland the school was prepared.

They made sure each student had bottled water and installed window air conditioners in a few classrooms to keep the students cool.

Despite that minor problem, head of schools Bonnie Jorgenson, says the day went off without a hitch.

"It's actually quite festive and fun. Students are happy to see their friends and to see their teachers," said Jorgenson.

The Duluth Edison Charter Schools are also implementing the Google Apps for Education Program this year to increase technology use in the classrooms.
