Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --The Duluth Police Foundation launched its first fundraising event tonight showing off the past, present and future of the city's police department.

The foundation was created by volunteers to help raise money for Duluth police department.

The public got the opportunity to see how far the police department has come since it was established in 1870.

Volunteers have been working over the past year to form the nonprofit organization to provide another source of funding for the department.

"Provide the latest technology to the department, training to our officers that is going to keep us safe doing their job, up to date with the latest tactics and also community safety initiatives," said Lt. Mike Ceynowa from the Duluth police department.

The goal of the group is to help keep up with ever changing crime trends.
