Firefighters Battle Morning Blaze

Hermantown, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) -- Hermantown firefighters responded to a house fire at 2633 Lismore Road Monday morning just before 9 a.m..

When firefighters arrived on scene, the home was engulfed.

Officials say a 96-year-old man is the occupant of the home and was out on a drive when the house was on fire.

Nobody was in the home at the time of the fire.

Mutual aid was requested from fire departments including Rice Lake, Lakewood, Clifton, Hermantown, Two Harbors, Normanna, Gnesen, Gold Cross Ambulance, Air National Guard and the St. Louis County Sheriff's Department responded.

The State Fire Marshal was also called to investigate the scene.

The Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross says it has not been called in to assist, but is standing by.
