McKinley, MN (NNCNOW.com) - Authorities in St. Louis County have found human remains near McKinley.

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, authorities received a report Saturday at 11:50 a.m. of human remains being found on a mine dump in rural McKinley.

The Sheriff's Office has confirmed that the remains are human and might be those of a man reported missing from New York last fall.

Authorities say there is no indication of any criminal circumstances involving the remains.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has been involved in the investigation, which has been ongoing since Saturday.

Officials from the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office say the investigation had to be put on hold Saturday after nightfall, but investigators were finishing up their work at the scene Sunday afternoon.

St. Louis County Rescue Squad officials say the Squad will search the McKinley/Gilbert area Monday morning in relation to the discovery of the remains.

Rescue Squad officials could not comment further on their involvement.

No more specific information regarding the exact location or nature of the remains has been given at this time.

The Gilbert Police Department also assisted with the investigation.
