Superior, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) - Games, dancing, and a sushi demonstration were all on hand for the hundreds of people that attended.
UWS offers courses on the Japanese culture and language workshops.
Both Duluth and Superior have sister cities in Japan and organizers say this event was a chance for the public to get a hands on look at the importance of the holiday.
"New Year is the biggest event for the Japanese so we thought it might be a good idea to share that with people around here," said Miaki Habuka, an organizer of the event.
Habuka says even though the event focused around the Japanese New Year, the entire event allowed visitors to learn about Japanese culture as a whole.
