Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - For more than 100 children about to enter Kindergarten this fall at Lester Park Elementary, meeting teachers and playing with soon to be classmates is step one in their journey as a student.
Kindergarten Roundup takes place every year at the school on Duluth's East side...and kids have the chance to tour the grounds and ride the school bus for the first time.
During the event, teachers and school staff interview students to learn about their reading and counting skills, so parents can help prepare the four and five year olds for school this September.
The school principal says many of the kids arrive to the Roundup unnerved, but typically go home ready for what's ahead.
"They come in and there's important paperwork that needs to be turned in like their health records. And the kids come down and the parents meet PTA and the foundation and they'll talk to the school nurse about and health information that we need," Bonnie Wolden, Lester Park Elem. Principal, said.
If your child is attending Lester Park Elementary and you were not able to attend, Principal Wolden says it is not too late.
Other Northland schools are also scheduling kindergarten round–ups, you can contact the school district you live in for more information.
