Large Brawl Results in Death and Life Threatening Injuries

Bemidji, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A man has died after being beaten to death near Bemidji, MN and two suspects are expected to face 2nd degree murder and assault charges.

When Beltrami County Sheriff’s responded to the scene of a large brawl on Thursday evening around 6:30 Thursday, they found a large group of intoxicated people who were bleeding and in distress.

Leslie Headbird, a 44-year-old man was beaten so severely he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Two other victims, a man and woman were hospitalized with life threatening injuries.

Police say they found an 18-year-old suspect attempting to break into a house and hi-jack a car and its driver.

He was treated for minor injuries.

A second suspect, 29-year-old woman of Cass Lake, was also arrested.

Both suspects are in custody in the Beltrami County Jail.

Charges are pending review of the Beltrami County Attorney's Office.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Crime Scene Team responded to process the scene for evidence.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Leech Lake Tribal Police, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, BCA Special agents, Minnesota State Patrol, Paul Bunyan Task Force, Bemidji Ambulance and Leech Lake Ambulance.

The brawl happened at a home in the 1300 block of Quill Ln SE, Ten Lakes Township, approximately 13 miles east of Bemidji.
