CHISHOLM, MN (Northland's NewsCenter)--Seventh graders may be considering a career in science and engineering after taking a field trip on the Iron Range.
The Iron Range Science and Engineering Festival at the Minnesota Discovery center kicked off on Tuesday.
"If we can get these kids engaged and see what it's really all about, at least then if they are interested, they'll know what things they should be choosing when they reach the ninth grade level," Tammy Jensen of the MN Discovery Center said.
About 800 students are learning how things like electricity, wind, atoms, neutrinos, dark matter and even invasive earthworms, impact everyday life.
"I learned that liquid nitrogen can heat a light bulb even though it is super cold," Maria Herfindahl of Deer River said.
"I think it's cool how electricity can travel," Colton Casselman of Deer River said. "I think science really interested me after this field trip. I'd love to go into physical science instead of life science," he said.
The festival continues through Wednesday.
