DULUTH, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - When you start to hear the bells ringing and quarters clinking into red kettles, it's a sure sign the holidays are on their way.

Holiday programs such as the Red Kettles and Toyland Express still need volunteers and donations.

the bell ringers hit the streets last Friday for the Salvation Army, and more ringers are still needed.

Toy donations are also needed for the Toyland Express.

The organization collects toys for children, from infants to age 16, so every child can wake up with presents under their tree.

Last year, more than 3,000 toys were handed out and collections for this year have so far been slow.

Many more volunteer bell ringers are also need.

"We are still down about 400 bell ringers. We need lots of bell ringers yet."

If anyone wants to become a bell ringer, for even just a couple hours, they can sign-up at the Salvation Army.

And for families interested in applications to get toys from the Toyland Express program, they are available through December 2 and can be found at the Salvation Army.

The Northland's NewsCenter has a drop-off location for those who want to donate toys, and our building is located right down in Canal Park.
