Virginia, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - A recent Laurentian Chamber of Commerce event brought in more than $400 for the VRMC foundation.
The funds were raised during the Chamber's Business After Hours event Wednesday evening.
The funds will be used to purchase new digital mammography equipment for the hospital.
VRMC Foundation representatives say the Foundation will match the donated funds, dollar for dollar, bringing the total brought in by Wednesday's event to $800.
"It's significant. It's very expensive." said Imaging Department Manager, Linda Scipioni, "It's nice to have all of these different parts of the community help us to purchase this."
Experts say the digital mammography equipment is more sensitive than the current equipment and providing a greater ability to see through the dense breast tissue often found in younger women.
