Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A new national campaign, called "Barbeque for the Troops" kicks off this Memorial Day to help raise money for our American heroes and their families.
This summer, you can host a blow-out party on the patio and help alleviate some of the struggles our veterans and their families face after serving our nation.
"Post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, chemical abuse, the jobless rate is high, the suicide rate is going up," Chris Roemhildt, an Iraq Veteran and a Global War on Terrorism Outreach Technician with the St. Louis County Vet Center.
The Barbeque for the Troops website is user friendly, and the process to become a host is simple.
It includes templates to help promote your event as well as fundraising tips and ideas to collect donations.
Every dollar raised goes directly to U-S-O programs, a non-profit that has helped Roemhildt get through some hard times overseas.
"They try to bring that little piece of home to us,” he said. “And also they try to give some level of comfort at airports, traveling stuff like that, we've got our own little room, the USO room."
