Superior, MN (NNCNOW.com) - Enbridge Energy is in the planning stages of expanding its pipeline system to deliver more crude oil, with a direct impact on the Twin Ports.
The company says it will build two holding tanks at its existing Superior terminal.
Both will house 500 thousand barrels of crude oil, helping fuel the company's plans to ship more than 800 thousand barrels a day by 2015.
Enbridge officials say no new pipelines will be built as a part of the project, however upgrades in the surrounding infrastructure at its pumping stations in Minnesota and Wisconsin will take place.
"Production in Western Canada is increasing and production in the bachen region of North Dakota and Montana is increasing. Enbridge is unique poised in that we can serve both of those production areas very easily with our system," Mark Sitek, Vice President of VP Major Projects with Enbridge, said.
Officials say the construction of the two new tanks will bring between 50 and 100 new temporary construction jobs to the Superior area.
Construction will begin in two phases early this summer.
