Superior, Wis. (NNCNOW.com) - People gathered outside of the Superior Government Building to observe National Day of prayer.

Today marked the 63rd observance of Prayer Day, which is held the first Thursday of May.

The day was designated by the United States Congress when people are asked to turn to God and pray.

"We also pray for the area pastors, the churches, the youth, the schools, and we lift all of them up in prayer that they have wisdom and guidance in directing our youth," said Rose Ligman, Superior Prayer Day organizer.

Students from Maranatha Academy and Cathedral School sang "God Bless America" to close the ceremony.
