Duluth, MN (Northlands NewsCenter) -- A Duluth woman has died, and a teenage boy is hospitalized with life threatening injuries following a car crash Thursday morning on Woodland Avenue.
A pick-up truck and a car collided outside the Hartley Nature Center around 7:45 Thursday morning.
Witnesses say a man driving a pick up truck drove into the oncoming lane of traffic in an attempt to pass slower vehicles when he struck a car head on.
65 year old Paula Bergren of Duluth was extricated from the car and rushed to St. Luke's Hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Her passenger, a 13-year old boy, remains in the critical pediatric unit with life threatening injuries.
The driver of the truck, A 19 year old man, has been arrested for criminal vehicular operation. Police gave him a breathalyzer test at the scene.
They say alcohol and excessive speed were both factors in the fatal accident.
The suspect remains in police custody pending charges.
