Hibbing, MN (NNCNOW.com)- Senator Al Franken visited a local business in Hibbing this evening to talk about the importance of cost–cutting energy upgrades to infrastructure.

The Senator made a stop at Carpet Plaza, a carpet store which will soon receive upgrades to their windows, lights and other parts of their building to reduce their energy costs.

The store is part of the Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency's Business Energy Retrofitting Program, which gives grants to local businesses to help cover the cost of the upgrades.

The Senator says that making businesses energy efficient is important for helping businesses and creating jobs.

"It creates jobs in the building trades, the people that actually do the retrofits, and it also creates jobs for the people doing the manufacturing," said Franken.

Carpet Plaza is the first of 18 Iron Range businesses to receive upgrades through the AEOA's retrofitting program.
