Aurora, MN (NNCNOW.com) - Racers from all over the country are prepping for what's considered to be the race that signals the start of the Snocross season.
The 21st annual Amsoil Duluth National Snocross event kicks off this weekend at Spirit Mountain.
"It's pretty big. It kicks off the whole season," said professional women's Snocross racer, Cassidy Kislowski of the race in Duluth.
Kislowski and about 65 other Snocross racers have been training at the Snocross training site, Planet X, in Aurora. Planet X belongs to Scheuring Speed Sports, who opens the track to anyone wanting to train for the race. Owner Steve Scheuring says it's one of only a few Snocross practice tracks open in the country.
"It's exactly the same size track as the one they'll be racing on in Duluth," Scheuring said, "So it's a true test to prepare them for the first race."
People from all over the country take part in the Amsoil race.
"We've been here [at Planet X] all week," said Kislowski, who is from New York.
"We practice pretty much all day on the track," said Tim Tremblay, who races for Scheuring Speed Sports.
Tremblay, a Quebec native, won a Snocross World Championship last year. He has spent six seasons racing in the winter sport.
"I've done motocross my whole life," Tremblay said, "And then, I don't know, I just jumped on a snowmobile and everything was easy for me."
Both Tremblay and Kislowski hope their practice pays off this weekend.
"It's an incredible feeling when you get to win and you're the top guy," Tremblay said.
While the warm temperatures predicted for this week seem to threaten race conditions for this weekend, Scheuring says he's not concerned.
"If anybody can pull a rabbit out of a hat it's the spirit mountain crew and the Duluth convention bureau," Scheuring said of the event organizers ability to get the race underway.
Officials from Spirit Mountain say they are confident that the race will go on as planned this weekend.
Meanwhile, Giant's Ridge has delayed their opening due to the warm temperatures.
