Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com)-- Skiers from all over the Midwest are testing their skills against a four time Olympian Friday.

Conditions are just right at Spirit Mountain to race against the clock.

"Conditions are getting, and it's fast," said Spirit Mountain Snow Sports Director Heidi Carlsson. "We have 65 people here from all the different ski areas in the Midwest."

And those pursuing the best time in the NASTAR Regional Pacesetting Trials have to chase the time of A.J. Kitt.

"It's kind of like in golf, there's a par like a course and everybody strives to hit that," said Carlsson.

Four time Olympian A.J. Kitt.

"The passion for it is what drives me and I love to help people learn to ski better to see that fire brew inside," said Kitt.

NASTAR provides a racing venue for all ages.

"Mom, Dad, Kids, Grandparents can all get out there and some have fun racing against each other," said Kitt. "Some of them push me every once in a while and make it competitive. I like that. I'm still breathing that passion. It's a lot of fun."

The competition is held at Spirit Mountain throughout the entire ski season, pushing for the time set by each pacesetter.

"He sets the par for the course and each individual racer is going against that."

Spirit Mountain will host the NASTAR Midwest Championships through the weekend as skiers try to qualify for the National Championship, held at Aspen next March.
