Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) ---The Retired and Senior Volunteer program is celebrating four decades of volunteer service in Superior and Douglas County.

The RSVP Program supports dedicated volunteers, who are 55 and older.

On Monday, the program recognized 120 volunteers who donated more than 26 thousand hours to non-profit and public service agencies throughout Douglas County.

These hours of service break down into cold hard cash

In 2012 alone, volunteers helped save Douglas County more than 400 thousand dollars.

Bob Furhman, chair of the RSVP program, says it's important for the community to recognize the important contributions of these volunteers.

"These people give all of themselves all the time, so this is just a chance for us to give a little back," said Furhman.

The National Bank of Commerce donated 15 hundred dollars to the RSVP program at today's ceremony.

Awards were also given for years and service...with the longest volunteer commitment being 32 years!
